Depot Manager (Fuel/Oil)

Our client is a fast growth family owned fuel and lubricant distribution business based south of Bristol and covering the South of England.
The business has a requirement to appoint a new Depot Manager, responsible for running its site in Gloucester. As part of the Senior Management Team, the Depot Manager will be responsible for the day to day running of the sites (one main, two satellite) the staff and customers. It is essential that exceptional levels of customer service are maintained and that both customers and staff within the depot benefit from a seamless transition. The successful candidate will be a leader, will inspire the workforce and will be a credible figure within the operation, held in high regard with both colleagues and the customer base.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the depots and supply locations.
- Work with the Transport Manager to ensure that customer deliveries are made within the required timeframe.
- Ensure that all plant, equipment, and facilities at the depot are maintained correctly and are in good working order.
- Ensure that the office, yard, and warehouse are kept in a clean and tidy condition.
- Deal with customer problems or complaints in a timely manner.
- Ensure drivers hours are monitored and utilised.
- Keep adequate staffing levels, working with the HR team to ensure correct employment practices and procedures are followed.
- Ensure adequate stock levels of fuels, lubricants and other products are kept at all times.
- Promote a high level of customer service and delivery excellence.
- Keep costs within acceptable budgeted limits without negating quality or compliance for the business.
- Chair or assist with disciplinary or grievance hearings as required.
- Ensure HR Company procedures are carried out as per company policy.
- Work with Transport Manager to ensure that vehicles are correctly maintained and both vehicles and drivers always remain compliant with relevant legislation.
- Ensure weekly H&S and security checks are completed and that any remedial works are done as soon as possible.
Skills & Experience
The successful appointee will be a General Manager/Operations Manager/Depot Manager within a ‘multi drop’ transportation business. Fuel transportation would be an additional bonus but not essential. Experience working in a multi-site business would also be an advantage.
Experience working within the local agricultural sector could also be considered, a proven leader with a good knowledge of and reputation with the customers in the area. For example, feed, machinery distributors. Other necessary skills will include:
- Excellent communications skills.
- Ability to delegate tasks and ensure completion in an accurate and timely manner.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Must be IT literate and be prepared to lead upcoming change projects and the adoption of new technologies.
- Able to work under pressure.
- A thorough geographical knowledge of the depot delivery area, and an understanding of the wider company trading area.
- A good understanding of transport and logistics.
- Good numerical ability.
- Excellent people management skills.
