Our client is a leading engineering services and aftercare specialist working within the catering, hospitality and leisure industries. The business has enjoyed a consistent period of growth and built up an enviable track record within the industry for excellence in customer service. The business covers the whole of the UK, as well as some international contracts.
As part of the company’s growth plans, the owner has now identified the need to bring in some new leadership to help take the business to the next level. The target is to double the size of the business within 3-5 years, while improving profit margins and maintaining quality.
THE ROLE MANAGING DIRECTOR
Due to the owners wanting to significantly grow and develop the business, the decision has been made to recruit a new Managing Director to take the business to the next level.
Headquartered in Bury, the company has ambitious growth plans to double in size over the next 3-5 years from £5million to £10million, while also looking at opportunities to diversify into related fields and potentially product sales.
The incoming Managing Director will be an experienced and highly commercial business leader, with a successful track record of enhancing profitability and growing businesses with a field engineering team. Reporting into the Owner, this is a key appointment with full P&L and strategic responsibility for the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and set the direction for the business to grow the business to £10million+ over the next 3 – 5 years, and onwards.
- Play a key role in identifying further opportunities to expand the business into new potential markets
- Provide strong leadership and establish credibility as a business leader, to ensure execution of current business plans and budgets, taking full P&L responsibility for the business
- Further develop and implement an ambitious business growth strategy in line with company objectives
- Play a key role in helping to identify and secure larger contracts with retail and leisure chain clients
- Drive operational performance across the business to increase efficiency and enhance profitability
- Build, lead and inspire a high-performing team, ensuring effective recruitment, training and development strategies are in place
- Devise and implement demanding targets for improvement in market share, profit margin and customer satisfaction measures, without compromising quality
- Represent the company and build relationships with key stakeholders, including suppliers, clients and industry partners.
- Review existing systems, controls and organisational structures to identify, track and optimise conversion and pull through of contracts to support the realistic but ambitious growth plans
Skills and Competencies Required
- Degree educated, MBA preference
- Strong commercial background in relevant field with field engineering teams
- 5-10 years senior management experience within a comparably sized or larger business
- Proven business management experience, preferably with a commercial background within engineered products and after sales services
- Strong commercial leader with P&L experience, with demonstrable track record of growing and developing a business including international experience
- A charismatic leader who clearly demonstrates an ability to empower and motivate a team
