The Requirement
tesa approached Novo to help them build a new team at Corporate level responsible for identifying, incubating and scaling new and novel polymer technologies. This team of Technical Innovation and Commercial Leads, working closely with the CTO, were tasked with building strategic networks with open innovation partners including start-ups, universities and institutions to secure the new technologies and develop commercial benefit for the business. Of importance was a high level of academic achievement (PhD) in Polymer Chemistry along with the proven experience to identify commercial opportunities and measure their likelihood of success.
The Solution
Close collaboration with tesa’s talent team was required and a programme of search activity to secure individuals with the appropriate skills from around the world was deployed. Novo’s approach was to utilise a proactive approach to identify the foremost organisations, universities and start-ups globally to establish their Open Innovation Groups. From this, we were able to identify and pin-point the most appropriate individuals with the requisite skills and experience and confidentially approach them with the opportunity. International search activity and the ability to engage with high value talent across different jurisdictions was required.
The Outcome
With Novo’s programme of work, tesa have appointed multiple individuals in their Hamburg head-quarters as well as their other regional centres in Michigan and Shanghai. These individuals continue to contribute to the future development of tesa and ensuring they remain at the forefront of novel polymer based products.
