Interim Head of Business Development – 6-12 months

Are you ready to lead the commercial success of a novel and exciting technology business?

Our client is a technology company addressing the increasing demand to replace petrochemical-based performance additives with products that are biodegradable, non-toxic and safe for the environment. Their custom-designed materials, specifically peptide-based bio-adhesives, are inspired by natural systems and precision engineered to deliver enhanced functionality to a range of markets. They are providing ground-breaking solutions to difficult problems in industry, with a track record of working in defence, health and personal care.

Established in 2017 they have developed over time with seed investment from a number of sources. Having secured further finance in the first quarter of 2025, their plan is to build further commercial opportunities to maximise value for Series A funding in c. 6-12 months. As such they are now looking to appoint an Interim Head of Business Development to join the team.

Primary Objectives

The role is to identify, pursue and secure new business, ideally within similar or allied sectors to those in which they are already successful. Working with a highly capable and involved board, the Interim Head of Business Development will set and execute a commercial plan to create new opportunities.

The candidate will work with the Board and the Leadership team to ensure the strategic commercial direction of the Company creates long term value for all stakeholders.

Experience and skills required

  • Demonstrable experience applying technology to create commercial value.
  • Demonstrable experience successfully growing science-based technology companies.
  • Experience selling novel products and solutions into defence, personal care or healthcare environments.
  • Evidence of developing positive and productive relationships with clients.
  • Evidence of strategic planning ability.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, to provide inspiration and encouragement to the team.
  • Ability to work with scientists to nurture innovation.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to understand and digest complex technical information.
  • Good understanding of biotechnology and its wider applications.
  • Degree level technical background.
