Our client is a privately owned business driven by the goal of harnessing the therapeutic power of cannabinoids. Established in 2017, the company is developing prescription medicines through regulatory pathways, with a particular emphasis on targeting chronic pain. They are looking to appoint a Head of Drug Discovery and Development (HDDD) to provide biological leadership.
Role
The postholder will have responsibility for the translation of pipeline assets to the clinic and prosecution of the therapeutic programmes to industry standards. The HDDD will provide scientific expertise and commercial focus in building the pipeline of medicines and driving in vivo research as well as preclinical and clinical translational data generation.
The successful candidate will have a broad impact across the organisation and responsibility for overseeing external preclinical studies conducted through collaborations or by contract research organisations.
This role’s focus is the delivery of the preclinical in vitro and in vivo studies from initial proof of concept through to regulatory and ethical approval, i.e., IND, CTA or regulatory processes in USA, Europe and APAC.
The HDDD will also deliver translational data support for clinical trials.

The candidate will be self-motivated, organised, discreet, proactive, and a problem solver who is able to manage multiple competing demands and have a sound understanding of a scaling biotech company working in a virtual mode.
Ideal experience can be summarised as follows:
senior scientific/biological leadership gained from SME/biotech track record of successfully pursuing IND strategies and advancing candidate molecules for IND/CTA enabling studies an interest in the pain therapeutic area, in oncology, including potentially rare diseases, and in cannabinoid therapeutics. In addition, you will have a hands-on problem solving and dynamic approach to challenges and opportunities alongside a team focus with strong interpersonal skills.
