Director of Operational Performance Appointment, Infinis 

The Client

Infinis is one of the UK’s leading generators of low-carbon power, capturing methane from landfill and disused mines, operating solar assets, and developing flexible generation systems including battery energy storage and natural-gas-fired units. Their work plays a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening the UK’s local energy resilience. As the organisation continues to expand, driven by major new solar and BESS projects, as well as emerging opportunities in green gas and carbon capture, Infinis remains deeply committed to supporting the UK’s journey to net zero by 2050.

With operations spanning hundreds of sites and a highly distributed workforce, Infinis relies on strong technical leadership at the centre of its operations. The Requirement

To strengthen performance across its diverse asset base, Infinis sought to appoint a Director of Operational Performance. The role would lead a centralised team responsible for real-time monitoring, planning, scheduling and operational analysis, activities critical to ensuring generation assets perform safely, efficiently and consistently.

This leader needed to bring not only technical understanding of engineering, data and operational systems, but also the ability to manage a 24/7 control room, support over 200 field-based engineers, and partner closely with senior leaders. The remit required a strategic thinker: someone able to drive improvement projects, optimise asset utilisation, and create high-quality reporting that would shape long-term operational decisions.

On a personal level, the ideal candidate would be resilient, analytical and comfortable with change—an individual who thrives in a fast-moving, technology-rich environment and brings a passion for operational excellence.

The Solution

Novo worked in close partnership with Infinis’ Director of Operations to understand the technical complexity, scale and culture of the organisation. We developed a national search strategy focused on operational leaders from energy, utilities, engineering and other multi-site environments.

Our approach included:

  • Mapping senior talent experienced in field-based workforce scheduling and asset-performance optimisation
  • Identifying leaders with strong analytical capability, including those adepts in data extraction and interpretation
  • Assessing leadership style, communication skill and the ability to influence across remote teams
  • Evaluating candidates’ experience with operational systems, process improvement and change delivery

We delivered a tightly qualified shortlist aligned to both the technical demands and cultural expectations of Infinis.

The Outcome

Infinis successfully appointed a Director of Operational Performance with deep operational leadership experience and strong analytical capability. They quickly became a central coordinating force, strengthening real-time monitoring, improving planning efficiency, and elevating the quality of performance reporting across the organisation.

The appointment has already enhanced Infinis’ ability to optimise asset performance, respond effectively to operational incidents, and support the company’s rapidly expanding renewable and low-carbon portfolio. It also provides a strong succession pathway for future senior roles within Infinis’ operations leadership team.
